Articulation Activities

ARTICULATION ACTIVITIES/GAMES

1)  CREATE YOUR OWN FLASHCARDS

Draw pictures of items with your sound(s).  Use these for speech practice!

2) WORD HUNT (2nd & 3rd graders enjoy this activity)

Think of a phrase or sentence.  Make sure your speech sound is in it.
For example, if you are working on the /r/ sound, you might choose "Springtime is Here!"
Use only the letters found in the phrase to create new words with your sound.
Some examples might include.....ring, rip, rest, her, etc.   See how many you can find! You will have a great practice list when you are finished!

3)  TAKING A WALK OR BIKE RIDE

While taking a walk, bike ride or even playing in your yard, see if you can spot items that have your sound in them.  For example, if you are working on the /s/ sound, you might spot a sidewalk, slide or mailbox.  See how many you can find!

4)  TIC-TAC-TOE

Draw a tic-tac-toe board on a piece of paper.  Write a speech word of your choice in each spot on the board.  When you take your turn, say the word in your square using your best speech!  You can even make up a sentence using the speech word!

5) DRAWING OR COLLAGE

On a piece of paper, draw a picture of your choice.  Add as many items in the picture with your speech sound(s) as you can, then tell someone about your picture using your best sound(s)!
You can also draw a collage of items with your sound(s).

6)  BOARD GAMES

Pick out a board game or card game you have at your house.   Each turn, practice saying a speech word or create a sentence using your best speech each turn.  If you are playing a game with a spinner, dice or numbers on cards, say as many words as the number to roll or pick.  For example, if you roll a number 5, you say 5 words with your speech sound!

7)  READ A STORY

While you are reading, use your best speech sound(s).  You can even write them down the words you find in your notebook and have a new practice list when you are finished reading!
